it's nice to know that we've got things under control in the airline industry, especially pertaining to travel safety...

I read through the following document this morning to see what I can and cannot take on board with me in my carry on later today. It made me laugh... take a look

Dear WestJet Guest,

Transport Canada’s enhanced security restrictions to carry-on baggage continue to be in effect until further notice.

Guests may not have liquids, gels, cigarette lighters or aerosols of any size at the screening checkpoint or in the cabin of the aircraft. Liquids or gels in containers of any size include: all beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency. Aerosols of any size include, but are not limited to: hairspray, bug spray and antistatic spray. Liquids, gels and aerosols can be placed in checked baggage but will be at the guests’ own risk. Cigarette lighters are not permitted in either checked or carry-on baggage. Any of the above mentioned items will be confiscated at pre-board security screening.

Solid cosmetics and personal hygiene items such as lipstick in tube and solid deodorant, lip balm and similar solids are permitted. Guests may also bring aboard baby formula, breast milk and baby food in small containers, if a baby or small child under the age of two is travelling. However, juice is not permitted.

Prescription medicine with a name that matches the guest’s ticket, and essential other non-prescription medicines are allowed, but must not exceed 120ml (4oz) per container. Non-prescription medicines include: saline solution and eye care products like eye drops and contact lens solution. Liquids or gels required for diabetic guests are permitted but must not exceed 148ml (5oz) per container.

At time of check-in, WestJet customer service agents will give guests the option to remove any restricted items from their carry-on baggage and place them in their checked baggage with the exception of cigarette lighters.

These restrictions currently apply to all flights including transborder into the U.S., domestic and international. Due to possible delays at security screening, guests are advised to check in a minimum of two hours prior to departure.
