It's been five days since students arrived and it's been fun. We started the year of Outtatown with a bang. Only hours after meeting our group we piled into the vans and headed off for the first event of the year... the canoe trip. I am convinced there is nothing like sending people further into the wilderness then they've ever been to really open up and bond with new people. It was a success and our team came back and sounded more like they've known each other for months rather than days.
This first shot was taken on our first day as we headed out. It was cold but the rain had stopped and the sun was shinning, it was a very optomistic way to begin the three day trip.
This second shot indicates the change in weather that we experienced on the last day. It was raining, cold and windy, which meant that the waves were strong. Just to paint the picture we paddled hard (read: as hard as possible) for 45mins. and only managed to travel 300m (not including the distance we were pushed backwards by the waves). The guides deemed it "unsafe" to finish, so we ended up having to get rescued via motor boat. Not exactly a feeling of satisfaction, but otherwise we would stil be canoeing for a few more days.
All in all it was a great time for bonding, and I look forward to many more adventures this year.

when will you be in vancouver this fall? you'll have to let me know. i'm sure we can manage more than a tea this time.
